Hand-Hammered Copper Teapot, 1.2 Litre

Made the way Kabul coppersmiths have always made them: a flat copper disc is raised into shape over a stake with a hammer, thousands of blows at a time. The dimpled surface is the tool marks, not a stamped texture.

Tin lining

The inside is lined with pure tin, called qalai, wiped on molten by hand. This is what makes copper safe for food and drink. With daily use the lining lasts several years and can be renewed by any coppersmith.

• 1.2 litre capacity, enough for four to six cups
• Hand-chased floral band around the widest part
• Cast brass handle set with a gap so it stays cooler

Use and care

Safe on gas and electric hobs, but not induction. Hand wash in warm soapy water and dry straight away, as copper water-spots badly. The outside will darken to a warm patina; polish it back with lemon and salt if you prefer it bright. Do not use the pot if you can see copper through the tin lining.
